Blessed Titus Zeman was born on the 4th January 1915 in Vajnory. On the 6th of August 1932 he took his order wows as a Salesian. He studied theology in Rome and Chieri near Torino, where he was ordained for a priest on 23rd June 1940. In 1946, when communists asked to remove all crosses from classrooms, Titus as a professor in Trnava was opposed: he was fired as a result. In the fall of 1950, he was twice secretly guiding young religious personnel over river Morava and through Austria to Italy so they could finish their theology studies and become ordained priests. During the third guide in April 1951, Titus Zeman along with almost the whole group, was arrested. The accusations were: espionage and high-treason. The prosecutor voted for a death sentence, but in the end Mr. Zeman only received 25 years of imprisonment. In 1964 Titus Zeman was released on parole, but was still persecuted, watched and medically experimented on. He died on 8th of January 1969 as a result of torture and imprisonment. Titus Zeman was beatified in Bratislava on 30th September 2017.
